Did you know that if you get a bad review on Airbnb as a traveler, you can simply close your account and open a new one, VIOLA!, no more bad reviews. Many Hosts accept guests with no reviews, because after all, Airbnb verified the guest – NOT SO – its true that Airbnb collects ID, but they don’t share it with the hosts, and that bad review in the previous account opened by the same person. – gone with the wind.
Booking.com, Expedia, HomeAway and TripAdvisor, don’t even verify their guests at all! We, as an industry, are being targeted by “cute smiley face texting” fraudsters. Not all hosts experience fraud, charge-backs, damage etc but its all a matter of statistics, what can happen – will eventually happen!
This is why confirming who, exactly, is checking into your unit is extremely important. Hotels do it, B&Bs do it, motels do it, why don’t short-term rental hosts do it? We, have more to lose from loud parties and damage and fraud because we host in residential areas and have neighbors with kids next to us.
Lets protect our investment!
